Weekly Winners April 13-19

Posted by adamswife on April 20, 2008

I went walking along the Green Belt by the Snake River looking for signs of spring. I found some good ones, and they are my Weekly Winners.

Double click on picture to enlarge any photo.

The ice is completely gone, but the run-off hasn’t started in earnest yet. When it does those rocks will be underwater. It’s early spring along the Snake River.

Birds and people are out in force to take advantage of the sunshine and warmer weather.

I don’t know how this guy thinks he’s going to fish with all the ducks, geese, and seagulls, but he’s checking out the equipment.

When the run-off comes I’m sure it will wash this old snag away.

I don’t know why the ducks and geese line up and stand on the edge of the weir. It’s a sure sign of spring when you see them there.

Eagle Rock – Weekly Winners April 6-12

Posted by adamswife on April 13, 2008

First of all I want to report that I did NOT wake up with a backache this morning. The new mattress is wonderful.

When this area was first settled it was known as “Eagle Rock.” Later on someone decided that Idaho Falls would be a better name. I don’t know why, since there is no fall in the river here (except for that caused by the addition of a weir.) Historical mysteries aside, whatever committee decides on ways to beautify our city decided to honor the name Eagle Rock. This fountain in the middle of a roundabout is the result.

Weekly Winners March 30 – April 5

Posted by adamswife on April 6, 2008

We had a very nice day on Thursday. As these are rare the kids and I decided to go out and enjoy the sunshine. We took a walk through the neighborhood, snapping pictures as we went. These are the pictures we took.

Weekly Winners March 10-16

Posted by adamswife on March 16, 2008

It has been a challenging week for me, physically. I’ve been having problems with my blood pressure dropping when I go from sitting to standing, etc. This has made it difficult for me to do much, because I am constantly light-headed and in danger of blacking out. I saw the cardiologist Friday and got some changes in my medications. This should improve. The POINT of all this is that I have not been out, roaming the green belt or the neighborhood, and anyplace else to take pictures. The few that I do have are all of snow.

It is snowing again this morning. I just couldn’t face posting another picture of snow. So, in looking around the apartment I saw a “picture” hanging on my wall and thought to myself “Too bad I can’t post that. It is surely one of my favorites.” Then I decided to take a picture of my picture. 😀

When my grandparents were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary 38 years ago my mother and I put together this “family tree.” At the bottom of the tree are my grandparents, Constant Orel and Laura Louise Thueson. If you go up the tree to the second branch on the left you will find my parents, Carl and Ellen Newman. Follow that branch to its second branching and you will find me. I was 20 years old when this photo family tree was put together. Because I had helped my mother put it together it came to me. One of my very favorite things. My winner this week is

Weekly Winners February 17-23

Posted by adamswife on February 24, 2008

February 17-23
I didn’t hear about the lunar eclipse the other day. So – I didn’t try to get any pictures of it. Coincidentally, however, I decided it was a good night to go out and take some pictures of the moon. This decision came a couple hours after the eclipse. This is what I got.
moon and shadow
I’m not sure what the other heavenly body is. I noticed what I thought was a star close to the moon before I took the photo. I don’t think this is a star.

February 3-February 9, 2008

I just had to get a picture of the blue sky and fluffy clouds. Too many days of grey, grey, grey!

Blue Sky with Clouds

The duck pond in the river that I have been watching all winter has nearly frozen closed. Poor little duckies. Some of them have finally left the area. I hope they went south for a few days of warmer weather.

Pond Almost Gon

Every time my grandkids see me with my camera they want their picture taken. Saturday morning, still in their pajamas.

Surprise Moon

Posted by adamswife on February 2, 2008

January 27-February2
I went out after dark the other night to catch the last rays of the sun just sinking behind the neighbors’ house.
Winter Sunset
I wanted to get a picture with less of the neighborhood in it, so I walked into the street and changed the angle a bit. What showed up was a total surprise.
Surprise Moon
When I checked the picture and saw that round object I thought I had got something on the lens. I looked up at the sky again, but it was not visible to the naked eye. Only the eye of the camera caught this out-of-place moon.

A Self-Portrait

Posted by adamswife on January 20, 2008

January 13-January 19, 2008

I have to be totally honest with you. I did not actually shoot the weekly winners this week. The actual photos were taken by my grandson, Graydon, under my direction. We had been down by the river feeding the ducks, and he wanted to take a picture. This is the subject he chose.
