Mittens and Vacuums and Exercise

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

I have a number of things I need to tackle today. But first, something I completed this week. It all started back in January when my granddaughter, Jessica, came home from school with hands that were wet and icy. “Didn’t you wear you gloves?” I asked. “Yeah, gramma, but they got all wet and now my hands are freezing.” Being a good gramma I decided to knit her a pair of woolen mittens – wool is supposed to maintain its insulating properties when wet. Thus no more red, icy hands.

Then her brother decided he needed new mittens, too. So I knit another pair. Then the littlest brother had mittens that were too small – so he got a pair, too.

Finally, it was Emmy’s turn. Would I please knit her some mittens, too? About this time I started having the never-ending flu with it’s accompanying cough-til-you-gag. So work did not proceed very rapidly. But, this week Emmy’s mittens are finished. I would show you a picture, but she has them on her hands and has already left for school.

Today I have two major things to tackle.

  1. Vacuuming the floor. When I don’t feel well this is one chore that gets put-off. Consequently it is to the stage that I either have to vacuum today or get a scoop shovel next week. 😉
  2. Starting over on my diet and exercise plan. Another thing that goes by the way when I’m not well. I’m finally feeling better and intend to tackle squats/lunges for the Tight-Ass Club and 3,000 steps per day for Walker Tracker.

I think that’s enough to tackle for one Tuesday. Don’t you?

Weekly Winners March 30 – April 5

Posted by adamswife on April 6, 2008

We had a very nice day on Thursday. As these are rare the kids and I decided to go out and enjoy the sunshine. We took a walk through the neighborhood, snapping pictures as we went. These are the pictures we took.

Good Morning!

I’ve been out for a short walk around the neighborhood this morning.  I’m excited – I found a few signs of spring.  I’ll be posting those pictures later.  Meanwhile, it’s time for me to use my inhaler and do some more of that RESTing that the doctor ordered.  Happy Wednesday to all my blogging friends!

Walk in the Park #3

Posted by adamswife on March 5, 2008

These pictures are taken 1/2 mile south of my usual spot.
Looking north you can see the white temple building in the background beyond the bridge

Looking South at the River from the same spot

Further south to the railroad bridge

Looking beneath the bridge and beyond you see ducks taking advantage of the open water
Moving back to the north the ice is breaking up on the weir and water is running over.  Spring must surely be near.

Diet and Exercise Tips

dirty word chocolate

Every time I hear the dirty word “exercise,” I wash my mouth out with chocolate.

We all get heavier as we get older because there’s a lot more information in our heads. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Another Walk In the Park

Posted by adamswife on February 25, 2008

I again took a walk along the “green belt” on the banks of the Snake River.  It was an exhilarating day,  but the scenery is still the same – lots and lots of white!  lol

This time of year there are always ducks and geese hoping for a handout.

Ducks & Geese

This goose wanted to be sure she got her fair share.  She was busy honking and running to get to the front of the line.

Greedy Goose

There were some geese flying overhead in their v-formation, but they were faster than my ability to focus. 🙂

There are benches along the way in case you want to rest or just enjoy the scenery.

Park Bench

There is an island in the river.  Apparently someone named Keefer used to own and live on the island.  You can still see his small cabin.  It blends in behind the brush, but you can see the snow on the roof if you look closely.  Apparently in the summer months there is quite a bit of wildlife to be seen on the island.  Birds, of course, but also the occasional deer, rabbit, or fox.

Keefer Island

The Snake River is still frozen from bank to bank.

Frozen River

The snow has melted a bit exposing the weir.  But there is no water going over – it’s all ice.

Exercise Videos for the Over 50 Crowd

Posted by adamswife on February 20, 2008

Old Broads

If you need an exercise or dance video that takes it easy on you while getting you in shape check out this site for seniors. There are even some arm chair videos for those who may have problems standing. You’ll find yoga, pilates, dance, and tai chi to name a few. Or, there’s a video that gives you a combination of different disciplines. It’s worth a look. I’ve got a couple “seniors” tapes that I use – not necessarily because of my age, but because I am so out of shape. I need a program that isn’t too difficult, but gives me the workout I need. After I get stronger I figure I can “move up” to something more strenuous.
