13 Pictures Taken in or near Buhl, Idaho

Posted by adamswife on April 24, 2008

donnerstag-dreizehn.jpg
Edition 13

Last weekend I went to Buhl, Idaho to visit my sister and to see one of my doctors. While I was there, I took a lot of pictures. Today you get to see 13 of the pictures I took in or near Buhl.

1.

Buhl, Idaho – The “Trout Capital of America”

2.

This mural is a work-in-progress being installed on one of the historic buildings in “downtown” Buhl (population approximately 4,000).

3 & 4.

My sister’s cat, Spanky, having a bit of a nap on the back of the chair.

5, 6, & 7.

These shots are of a golf course in the Snake River Canyon just outside Buhl.

8.

If you turn and face the other way, this is the view you get of the canyon wall.

9.

There is some new growth, showing green, among the old.

10.

This sign points the way to the golf course and to a trout farm further down the canyon. Next time I make the trip I’m planning to visit the trout farm. I’ll bring back some pictures to share.

11.

This is the Clear Lakes grade which climbs out of the canyon and deposits the traveler in Jerome County.

12 & 13.

Jerome County wheat fields. The “posts” in the middle of the field are the “solid sets” that support the shotgun sprinkler heads. To see one of these big gun sprinklers in action, go here.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little tour of Buhl and it’s environs. I have lots more pictures taken in the Twin Falls area to share with you over the next week or so.

Check out other Thursday Thirteeners here.  This is the first week of “themed” posting.  I, for one, totally spaced off the whole theme thing, but I’m sure there are others who did not.  This week’s theme “thirteen places you’ve visited that you’d recommend.”  I’ve given you just one. 😀

Thursday 13 – The Letter M

Posted by adamswife on April 17, 2008

donnerstag-dreizehn.jpg
April 17 Edition

I’ve decided to copy an idea I’ve seen before – 13 things all beginning with the same letter. I’ve chosen the letter M because that’s what has been on my mind today.

1. Mary Kay I went to my first meeting last night. I’m more excited than ever. I want me one of those pink Cadillacs. They’re even prettier in person. I really need a new car, and heaven knows I can’t afford to buy one for myself! 😉

2. Monday – I see my dentist for the first time in several years on Monday. I haven’t had any dental insurance and I didn’t have a dentist nearby – so I’ve let it slide. Now I’ve decided to travel to my dentist the same as I do to my gastroenterologist. When you find a good one, you stick with him. And Dr. Rencher is a good dentist, despite his unfortunate name.

3. Mammogram – I’ve been putting this off for several years, too. I thought I had enough to deal with health-wise without bringing in one more thing. However, my doctor insists that it is time to do this. I think if he wants one so badly he should go and have his own.

And now for a few not-so-familiar words, just for fun.

4. Machiaphobia – because I like the way it sounds and it is something we should all have. (fear of war)

5. Margaritamancy – doesn’t this sound like fun? It is divination using pearls – probably works better after a few margaritas.

6. Metutials – because we all have to deal with them and it’s nice to have a name other than !@#%^& (a small irritating chore which must be performed before other work can commence)

7. Misandronist – because every woman is one sometimes (person who believes men are the source of all problems)

OK, that’s enouth of those.

8. Mother – a title I bear with pride

9. Macabre – just because I like the way it sounds and suggests its own meaning

10. Macaroni – best when made with cheese and hamburger. My grandchildren love it with wienies.

11. Marvelous – always makes me want to sing “S’Wonderful, S’Marvelous …”

12. Master – Jesus Christ, the only master I serve willingly

13. Mytacism – something I’ve probably done today (incorrect or excessive use of the letter M)

13 Random Bits

Posted by adamswife on April 10, 2008

1. I had fried rice and sweet-n-sour pork for breakfast this morning. Actually, it was plain pork – I don’t like sweet-n-sour sauce, so I leave it off. I consider this an entirely rational and acceptable breakfast menu.

2. Lookin’ Out My Back Door Yes, It\'s snowing on April 10. Those white blobs you see on the photo are snowflakes. It is snowing today in Idaho Falls.

3. Lookin’ Out My Front Door We’ve seen this bush before when it was REALLY covered with snow.

SEARCH TERMS THAT HAVE LED OTHERS TO MY SITE

4. These are toes
5. Cornflakes cookies recipes
6. Partofeverything Melissa
7. Chicken skin neck
8. The family life of a porcupine
9. 1970 Valentine cards
10. Wrapping trees by famous artists

These have all left me scratching my head as to what I might have said that would bring this search to me. Especially the Melissa thing.

11. I cut my hair (and my son-in-law, my grandsons, and others over the years) with a Flowbee and have done for 15 years or more. I wore one out and had to get a new one. This drives my hairdresser crazy! 😀

12. One of my favorite memories from childhood is the Sunday afternoon drive. We would go with my dad’s parents and ride through the countryside looking at the newly plowed and planted fields. When it got so that grandpa had a tendency to “drive where he was looking” and not look where he was driving we always went in our car with Dad doing the driving. Very few farmers could pull a row straight enough to earn the admiration of these two men.

13. “Things are only impossible until they’re not.” Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation. I really like this quote because it reminds me of my high school chemistry teacher. He used to say, “I love young people. They’re too dumb to know something is impossible, so they go ahead and do it anyway.” He used as an example two young men who combined two inert elements to make a brand new compound. Everyone knows (or did prior to that) that inert elements will not combine with other elements – it’s impossible (until it’s not).

13 Things I’d Change if I Could

Posted by adamswife on March 12, 2008

ttspring2.jpg
Edition 9

1. The candidates for President of the United States —

I don’t know who I would choose, but none of the 3 who are currently running (4 if you count Ralph Nader).

2. My age — I’d like to be 35 for the rest of my life. That was a good year, I was happy, healthy, and about as prosperous as I ever need to be.

3. My husband’s age — Being 35 again wouldn’t be any fun if he weren’t there beside me.

4. TV programs — I’m really tired of realty programs, and sit-coms that don’t know the difference between funny and silly/stupid.

5. The weather — what more can I say?

6. My weight — I know, you’re thinking that’s something I could change. Well, I’m not so sure about that. If I could change it wouldn’t it be different?

7. The economy — There has to be a system that evens out the differences between the haves and the have-nots without destroying individual initiative.

8. People’s minds — This would come in handy so frequently, I can’t begin to imagine how much better life would be if people would just have the sense to agree with me.

9. My little brother — Just think about it.

10. The lack of compassion in the world.

11. The price of gas –– what a hero that would make me.

12. French fries –– I would take out the calories and make them a lot less prone to becoming soggy.

13. The size of my hips — I’d like just once in my life to have hips enough to hold up a pair of slacks or a skirt – I’m really tired of the constant tugging. And there was that time when I didn’t tug soon enough and I walked right out of my slip, or the time my slacks ended up around my ankles. Really!

1. To Each His Own My father used to sing this to my mother. It was “their song.” I have always loved its sentiment and how much my dad loved my mom.

3. You Picked a Sad Time to Leave Me, Lucille – with slightly altered lyrics this is a song bemoaned by truckers – “You picked a sad time to leave me, loose wheel.”

4. Kentucky Babe – Our dad used to sing this to us after we were in bed at night. A beautiful lullaby full of love.

5. It’s a Grand Night for Singing – Just because I love to sing and this is so exuberant.
