Wordless Wednesday
Wordless Wednesday #6

My hubby, Ed, at supper at the home.

Ed

His table-mate, Martin. No, Martin’s not praying over his meal, he’s just too tired to eat.

Martin
Ed’s other table mate. I can never remember her name. *blush*

Tuesday

Posted by adamswife on February 26, 2008

JoshuaI was sleeping peacefully this morning just before 7:00 when I heard a small voice say, “Grandma.  Why is Jessie down here?”  After opening my eyes enough to see that it was still very dark in my bedroom I answered, “Jessie’s not down here.”  Then I heard another voice.
  “Yes, I am.”The Wink
After dealing with that interruption I was again attempting to sleep when I heard the phone ring.  By the time I made it from the bed to the desk the ringing had stopped.  Then I heard my daughter’s phone ringing.  “Ah – must have been someone looking for me who has now called my alternate number.”
EdI started upstairs to find out who had called and met daughter coming down.  It was the nursing home.  Ed had taken another fall early this morning.  He scraped his right elbow and injured one of his ankles.  When I called later to see how he was doing I was assured that he was not in pain and doing well.  I stopped by to see him just before supper time.
As usual, I found him sleeping.  I woke him up, kissed him hello, and asked how he was doing.  The look on his face suggested he didn’t know me, so I asked if he knew who I was.  “No,” shaking his head.  I explained that I’m his wife, Carla.  He still didn’t seem to recognize me, ‘though he was content to hold my hand as I sat there beside him.  “So,”  I said, “do you let all the ladies kiss you?”  He contemplated a minute, started to grin, and said, “Yes!”
When I left Ed I stopped at WinCo to pick up a few groceries.  I was in the store for 30 minutes or less.  When I got in the car to drive home, my feet started to cramp.  So, driving home I had pains in both feet with the toes pulling off into strange directions where toes were never meant to go.  It was the perfect end to the day.

Chicory vs Endive

Posted by adamswife on February 25, 2008

Jientje posted a recipe using a vegetable she calls “chicory” which is better known in the USA as “Belgian endive.” Not knowing the difference, if any, between endive and chicory I decided to do a Google search. Under “Chicory vs Endive” I found this picture. Apparently the top is known in America as endive and the root is the chicory referred to in “chicory” coffee. There is also a curly-leafed, greener version that is sometimes known as “frisee” that also is called “chicory.” I suppose they could make it a bit more confusing if they tried really hard, but it seems to be a difference in locale rather than a difference in vegetable. And that is the end of today’s vocabulary lesson. :D

Another Walk In the Park

Posted by adamswife on February 25, 2008

I again took a walk along the “green belt” on the banks of the Snake River.  It was an exhilarating day,  but the scenery is still the same – lots and lots of white!  lol

This time of year there are always ducks and geese hoping for a handout.

Ducks & Geese

This goose wanted to be sure she got her fair share.  She was busy honking and running to get to the front of the line.

Greedy Goose

There were some geese flying overhead in their v-formation, but they were faster than my ability to focus. :)

There are benches along the way in case you want to rest or just enjoy the scenery.

Park Bench

There is an island in the river.  Apparently someone named Keefer used to own and live on the island.  You can still see his small cabin.  It blends in behind the brush, but you can see the snow on the roof if you look closely.  Apparently in the summer months there is quite a bit of wildlife to be seen on the island.  Birds, of course, but also the occasional deer, rabbit, or fox.

Keefer Island

The Snake River is still frozen from bank to bank.

Frozen River

The snow has melted a bit exposing the weir.  But there is no water going over – it’s all ice.

Weekly Winners February 17-23

February 17-23
I didn’t hear about the lunar eclipse the other day. So – I didn’t try to get any pictures of it. Coincidentally, however, I decided it was a good night to go out and take some pictures of the moon. This decision came a couple hours after the eclipse. This is what I got.
moon and shadow
I’m not sure what the other heavenly body is. I noticed what I thought was a star close to the moon before I took the photo. I don’t think this is a star.

Exercise Videos for the Over 50 Crowd

Posted by adamswife on February 20, 2008

Old Broads

If you need an exercise or dance video that takes it easy on you while getting you in shape check out this site for seniors. There are even some arm chair videos for those who may have problems standing. You’ll find yoga, pilates, dance, and tai chi to name a few. Or, there’s a video that gives you a combination of different disciplines. It’s worth a look. I’ve got a couple “seniors” tapes that I use – not necessarily because of my age, but because I am so out of shape. I need a program that isn’t too difficult, but gives me the workout I need. After I get stronger I figure I can “move up” to something more strenuous.
