GEMINI – The Twin

Posted by adamswife on December 30, 2007

I don’t normally subscribe to anything having to do with Astrology.  However, I got this in an e-mail this morning and it so perfectly describes me.  I just had to share.  LOL

Gemini

GEMINI – The Twin

Nice. Love is one of a kind. Great listeners Very Good at confusing people.. Lover not a fighter, but will still knock you out. Gemini’s will not take any crap from anyone. Gemini’s like to tell people what they should do and get offended easily.  They are great at losing things and are forgetful.  Gemini’s can be very sarcastic and childish at times, and are very nosey.
Trustworthy. Always happy. VERY Loud. Talkative. Outgoing VERY FORGIVING. Loves to make out. Has a beautiful smile. Generous. Strong. THE MOST IRRESISTIBLE

A May-born Child

Posted by adamswife on December 28, 2007

misty-lake.jpg

I was reading a meme on another blog this morning. Part of the instructions were to go to the month of your birth, read the characteristics listed there, and highlight the ones that apply to you. Not being tagged, I don’t have to follow all those rules, but I do want to comment a bit on the May-child.

Stubborn and hard-hearted: I have been known to be a bit recalcitrant at times, but never hard-hearted.

Strong-willed and highly motivated: Now that depends on the circumstances and the time of day. Lately both my will and my motivation have been less than indicated.

Easily angered: Not anymore. Anger requires a lot of energy and I learned quite young that the rewards of anger are alienation and loss.

Attracts others and loves attention: Of course. Doesn’t everyone?

Deep feelings: Yes

Beautiful physically and mentally: You know I’m one of God’s most adorable creatures. And my brain is just lovely – I have the MRI’s to prove it.

Firm Standpoint: Well, yeah. Gotta be on firm ground or I might fall down.

Needs no motivation: See above.

Easily consoled: If this is a good thing, then I’m sure it absolutely fits me. I’m not sure, though, exactly what it means.

Systematic (left brain): Well, people have been telling me for years that I’m not in my right mind!

Loves to dream: Of course! Dreams are so much nicer than reality.

Strong clairvoyance: I see many things.

Understanding: I understand your pain (and if you let me I’ll tell you just how to fix it).

Sickness usually in the ear and neck: Don’t you mean the pancreas and the intestines? Not to mention the joints and muscles.

Good imagination: Sometimes I imagine that I am young, beautiful, and rich. That’s good.

Weak breathing: only on days when I have asthma or allergies.

Loves literature and the arts: Well, I do belong to 3 book clubs and have accepted the challenge to read 50 books in 2008.

Loves traveling: Actually, no. I don’t mind being someplace else as long as I don’t have to travel to get there.

Dislike being at home: Home is my favorite place.

Restless: Only when I’m trying to sleep.

Not having many children: I guess one doesn’t make a “many” does it?

Hardworking: As long as it doesn’t make me sweat.

High spirited: No, I’m kinda short.

Spendthrift: You must have money before you can spend.

The Feast of St. Mark Downs

Posted by adamswife on December 26, 2007

twinkle-house.gif

I have blatantly stolen this feast from Elimah.  I read about it on her blog and took immediately to the idea.  This feast begins the day after Christmas and continues for several weeks.  If you’re not into puns, let me know and someone will explain it to you.  Being the first day of the feast (and having my driveway cleared by some special friends with a snow blower) I decided I had to do a bit of shopping in keeping with the spirit of the thing.  I did not, however, take advantage of the many bargains and marked down merchandise, I just got a few groceries to fill out my holiday meal.  I have a turkey all thawed and ready to roast.  Since I didn’t use it yesterday, I’ve gotta get it in the oven today.  So this evening I will be dining on roast turkey, homemade rolls, roasted potatoes, and carrots.  And, if I have any room left, there is some left-over chocolate pie in the freezer.

I learned another holiday term yesterday.  You know the day before Christmas Eve – a day that has become part of the celebration in many families as it takes so many days to go everywhere and see everyone?  Well, that day now has a name.  It is Christmas Adam.  Adam came before Eve, so the day before Christmas Eve must be Christmas Adam.  It is so nice to finally have a simple name for that day.  You are all invited to join me for my Christmas Adam party next year. :D

Goodnight

Posted by adamswife on December 26, 2007

Dreamy Goodnight

It has been a very nice Christmas day. I’m still not confident about getting my car on the street without getting stuck in a deep rut so I walked over to the nh to visit with Ed today. I opened a can of smoked oysters for him to enjoy while I was there. He’s not supposed to have sweet snacks and things with a lot of carbs. He loves smoked oysters so that’s what I take him for treats. Our bishop and his wife invited me to have dinner with their family. It was nice to visit with them and watch their little grandchildren. It’s been a lot of years since I saw a little girl tend her doll baby the way these girls did today. So sweet. The day has come to a peaceful end, so I bid you good-night. Sweet dreams.

A Christmas Wish

Posted by adamswife on December 25, 2007

I was visiting Storyteller a few minutes ago and found this lovely Christmas wish posted there by Peajay. I have blatantly stolen it to share with my friends here. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

The light of the Christmas star to you
The warmth of home and hearth to you
The cheer and good will of friends to you
The hope of a childlike heart to you
The joy of a thousand angels to you
The love of the Son and God’s peace to you.

Christmas Hoopla

Posted by adamswife on December 25, 2007

Apparently someone has decided that “meme” has become a too-used word. So, the tag formerly known as meme has now become a hoopla. Read on for the rules.

1. List 12 random things about yourself that have to do with Christmas

2. Please refer to it as a ‘hoopla’ and not the dreaded ‘m’-word

3. You have to specifically tag people when you’re done. None of this “if you’re reading this, consider yourself tagged” stuff is allowed…then nobody ends up actually doing it. The number of people who you tag is really up to you — but the more, the merrier to get this ‘hoopla’ circulating through the Blog-o-sphere.

4. Please try and do it as quickly as possible. The Christmas season will be over before we know it.

So, a list of twelve Christmas-related things about me. Here goes.

1. My father was a postal worker and had to work Christmas morning for many years. Therefore, we opened Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve.

2. We went to Grandma’s house for Christmas Eve where we had a big turkey dinner and then opened gifts. Every year Dad, usually with one of his brothers, would have to go out for one thing or another that had been forgotten.

3. When we got home from Grandma’s Santa Claus had always arrived early and left our gifts.

4. When I was 13 I got a new violin for Christmas. The one I had been using was a 3/4 size and I had finally grown enough to need the full-size.

5. My father was asked frequently to play Santa Claus when I was very little. One year no one knew who he was until he saw my sister standing on a chair at the very edge of the stage. Being immediately convinced that she was going to fall, like any good parent he called her by name and told her to sit down quite forcefully. She immediately turned to him saying, “Daddy!” So much for anonymity. LOL

6. After my daughter was born my in-laws would tell me every year not to get her a dolly, as they had already purchased one. This made me quite furious. It was my place to buy the dolly and they should have asked. Finally, when she was 3 years old, I told everyone that I was getting the dolly this year and no one else was allowed to get her one!

7. We moved to Arizona in 1983. Our first year there I nearly missed Christmas. The weather was warm, there was no snow or other indication that winter was coming. Finally I became aware of the date and started preparations for the big day.

8. In a retirement community near where we lived (Sun City West) the city urged all businesses and residences to put out luminarias for Christmas Eve. My daughter still talks about how beautiful it was to have the whole city lit in this way.

9. It has long been a tradition in our family to drive around the town and view the Christmas lights people have put up on their homes and yards. We always did this when we left Grandma’s house before returning home for the night.

10. We are a family that loves music. Every year, no matter where we were, the Christmas Eve celebration did not end until Mom had gone to the piano and begun to play Christmas Carols. The entire family would join in singing the beautiful and fun songs of the season.

11. For several years it was my privilege to sing “O, Holy Night” at the Christmas service in church.

12. There was never a time in our family when a Christmas celebration was marred by fighting or quarreling. We are a loving family and managed to be on our best behavior at Christmas every year.

Now then, who shall I tag? How about Zazzy, Sandy, Storyteller, the Sarcastic Mom, and Elimah? Since the season is drawing to a close I give you all permission to shorten the list if you want. However, you must list at least 6 things and twelve would be better. Elimah, I know you are not Christian, you and anyone else can talk about this season without reference to Christmas if that suits you best.

Christmas Eve

Posted by adamswife on December 24, 2007

Ho Ho Santa

I was having a lovely Christmas Eve until 30 minutes ago.  I’ve been listening to Christmas music, watching Christmas programs, doing a bit of knitting, and taking delivery of the Mazda Miata convertible my sil got my daughter for Christmas.  Enjoying the day and feeling the spirit of Christmas.  Until I tried to dig out the driveway so I could go see Ed.  The more I shoveled, the deeper the snow got.  When I got to the street and realized I would never be able to get my car through the snow sitting on the public thoroughfare, I gave up.  I called the nh to see how Ed is doing, asked the nurse to tell him I love him, and came back to my solitary Christmas Eve.  Somehow I’m not feeling the good vibes as much as I was an hour ago.  To top it all off sometimes strenuous exercise makes me very nauseated.  You guessed it – snow shoveling is strenuous exercise and my tummy is letting me know I shouldn’t have done that.  Happy freaking Christmas!  As soon as I get over wanting to throw up and my heart stops pounding I’m sure I’ll feel happier about things.  I can’t even comfort myself with Christmas goodies – remember the upset tummy?  But I’ll read a good book, find something funny to put on the tv, have a good laugh, and feel much better soon.  I hope my friends are having a wonderful Christmas Eve.  Tonight I will light a fire and read the account in Luke of Christ’s birth and remember that Christmas means more than the inability to visit my honey.  I’ve survived much worse, and I’ll survive this, too.  We have missed a lot of special times together because of the weather.  Ed was a cross-country driver for most of our lives together.  This time it’s me who can’t get to him rather than the other way ’round.  :D

Decorated My Tree

Posted by adamswife on December 19, 2007

trees-carla.jpg

With  a bit of nagging from my grandson, I finally got out my tree and put it up yesterday.  In fact, I have 3 trees up.  I have a four-footer, one that is about 18-24 inches, and a fiber-optic tree that is 8 inches.  Gs calls that the baby tree.  It is battery-operated and has quit working.  I am being nagged to “plug in the baby tree.”  lol

Today  I’ve been making fiber-art Christmas cards.  That is my final project for this Christmas.  When I put them in the mail tomorrow I will be finished.  I make knitted dish cloths for my hair dresser every year.  I went in to have my nails done yesterday and forgot to take them to her.  So, I had to go back today.  I’ve spoiled her – now she can’t wash dishes without one of my knitted cloths.  The last ones I gave her have holes in them so she was a bit desperate.  Told me I had to bring them in today, can’t wait for my next appointment.

Christmas Came Early

Posted by adamswife on December 17, 2007

Well, the kids, the grandkids, and I went to the nh this evening and took Christmas to Ed.  We had baked ham and scalloped potatoes with chocolate or lemon meringue pie for dessert.  Then the children staged the Nativity while mom and dad read the story from the Bible.  Afterward we opened presents.  Ed and I gave everybody new pajamas.  Ed got new jammies and two warm shirts as well as a clock with the g-kids pictures at 12, 3, 6, and 9.  The kids got me the digital camera I wanted.  Hurray!  Maybe I’ll take more pictures now.  I always forget to have my film developed.  Won’t have to do that anymore.  It was a lovely evening.  When I asked Ed if he enjoyed his Christmas party he answered with a resounding “Yes.”  I took lots of pictures.  Hope they turn out well.
